When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Martin Odén put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. After 20 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Costa Rica! Benito Sanz went to the wrong direction when Matthias Ekegren was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Martin Odén had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute.
