With a little luck, Mexico's Dante Lacasa got control of the ball when Florian Plouffe tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Florian Plouffe got free with Dante Lacasa in the 6th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Bruno Steiner came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Olympique Fribourg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bruno Steiner couldn't finish the play. After having played for 10 minutes, Alberto Tafalla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alberto Tafalla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tristan Arioli made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. 28 minutes into the game, Lautaro Mancebo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Tristan Arioli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 34th minute, Alberto Tafalla got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 36th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tristan Arioli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lautaro Mancebo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Tristan Arioli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 46th minute of play. Joel Gaona's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tristan Arioli read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 48th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Marcellus Walpert charged in rather forcefully in the 52nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee ignored Olympique Fribourg's protests and gave Remo Pürro a yellow card for diving instead. Remo Pürro kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Mexico were awarded a corner in the 65th minute after Olympique Fribourg's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joel Gaona took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Joel Gaona got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Tristan Arioli quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Omar Bünder during the 73rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Olympique Fribourg's zone, Luca Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tristan Arioli came out of the goal and Luca Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tristan Arioli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joel Gaona in the 76th minute of the match. Tristan Arioli made an important save on a dangerous shot by Facundo Cadaval in the 78th minute. In the 78th minute of the game, Luca Rouco landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Mexico made a substitution. Jonathan Atenas replaced Luca Rouco. In the 80th minute, Omar Bünder hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 81 minutes into the match, Joel Gaona notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli. Tristan Arioli was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. A collision led to Olympique Fribourg getting a freekick after 84 minutes play.
