But to his dismay, Iustin Bungeanu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The supporters of Colombia booed when Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roderick Oosterhof didn't get a good kick on the ball. Iustin Bungeanu's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 36thth minute, Pedro Manzanares skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Pedro Manzanares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luke Clist in the 40th minute of the match. Ghenadie Furdui hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. In the 42nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 43 minutes, Axel Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Colombia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Axel Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Régis de Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abram Sarmiento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

A collision led to Palmeiras getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Ghenadie Furdui hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Santino Seco in the 52nd minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Axel Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Régis de Queirós. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Axel Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. Régis de Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abram Sarmiento, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. 58 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Abram Sarmiento came free, but Régis de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós got control of the ball when Axel Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Régis de Queirós made an important save on a dangerous shot by Axel Montenegro in the 68th minute. In the 88thth minute of the game Ignacio Mastache who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Valdir Lopes kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. After having played for 90 minutes, Ignacio Mastache managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal.
