The audience thought a goal was coming when Jaime Pardo got free with Sven-Arne Eklund in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

A sloppy throw-in by Jose Sanz in the 78th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Bennis's Hans Kielberg. 80 minutes into the match, Hector Covarrubias had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sven-Arne Eklund. Bennis's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hector Covarrubias was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. Sven-Arne Eklund stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jaime Pardo's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. After 84 minutes Bennis's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jaime Pardo who took care of the corner kick. In the 85th minute Jaime Pardo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sven-Arne Eklund saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
