The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Aquiles Medina's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 8th minute of the game. In the 25th minute Aquiles Medina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 26 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Patricio Costa. In the 29th minute, Aquiles Medina made a precise shot to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Ivan Ferman got a throw-in 33 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Marciano Orlondon. Real Racing Club's Oscar Constancio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 39th minute of play. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Tomas Illescas hit a great ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tomas Illescas during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aquiles Medina, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Venezuela's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
