After 25 minutes of play, Mexico's Joel Gaona made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Elbert Haar was left in no man's land by his defense there! Lautaro Mancebo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Elbert Haar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 37th minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elbert Haar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Pannekoeken booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonardo Leoz didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Haroldo Weather in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dante Lacasa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Otto Hovenkamp hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 96th minute of play forced Pannekoeken's goalkeeper Elbert Haar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Mexico had won after a very even match.
