In the 42nd match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Campos to maneuver through the defense. The tension between the Paraguay and the Club Brugge players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 52 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Hector Covarrubias. Jef De Langhe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Pardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Hector Covarrubias came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Paraguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hector Covarrubias couldn't finish the play. Club Brugge's Jef De Langhe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jaime Pardo in the 63rd minute of play. After having played for 65 minutes, Hector Covarrubias managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hector Covarrubias was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 73 played minutes Club Brugge got a freekick which was hit by Fredrik Wijgaert. When Primitivo Escribano came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Paraguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Primitivo Escribano couldn't finish the play. If Hector Covarrubias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jacobo Nores took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dave Goorts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jef De Langhe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaime Pardo in the 86th minute of play. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jef De Langhe having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Jaime Pardo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jef De Langhe was relentless in the 93rd minute of the game. Paraguay walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
