After 47 played minutes Rangers FC got a freekick which was hit by Gary Gowan. After 48 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Moises Fernandino. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Danny Gilespie to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Jesus Carvallo got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Moises Fernandino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fergus Fairbairn having to interfere. Ricardo Zorita made an important save on a dangerous shot by Danny Gilespie in the 71st minute. After having played for 75 minutes, Ron McLeish managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rangers FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ron McLeish was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 76th minute, Rangers FC's Danny Gilespie dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-2. In the 83rd match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abram Luque to maneuver through the defense. After 87 played minutes Rangers FC got a freekick which was hit by Angus Howison. Ricardo Zorita didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 96th minute, which inside left pole to 2-3. The El Salvador supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Rangers FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Rangers FC.
