The audience was convinced that Julian Murillo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ray Clemence was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. A sloppy throw-in by Rodrigo Abaurre in the 16th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Eliseo Mina. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind PHOENIX SC's goalkeeper Ray Clemence, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 23 minutes into the match, PHOENIX SC's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Ray Clemence reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rolando Noboa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lilcho Ilchov in the 26th minute. After a rather tough play, PHOENIX SC's Severiano Redondas got a free kick in the 27th minute. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Samai Asmawan in the 35th minute of play. In the 40th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ray Clemence saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 40 minutes in the game, Julian Murillo dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. After having played for 46 minutes, Milagros Fraga managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Peru's supporters crossed their fingers, but Milagros Fraga was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Frederico Hendrickx to make the kick off. Peru's Eliseo Mina managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Rodrigo Abaurre in the 53 minute of the game. In the 64th minute Samai Asmawan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Julian Murillo in the 79th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ray Clemence prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Rodrigo Abaurre made a throw-in in the 80th minute of the game. Ray Clemence showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 81st minute of the match. After 81 played minutes PHOENIX SC got a freekick which was hit by Sun Chao Mo. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. 84 minutes into the match, PHOENIX SC's goalkeeper Ray Clemence had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rafael Gallo. 85 minutes into the game, Rodrigo Abaurre threw the ball into play from the sideline. Peru's Eliseo Mina quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Ray Clemence showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Gallo in the 86th minute of the match. In the 88th minute Peru were awarded a corner. Eliseo Mina went to the cornerflag to take it. Peru's Eliseo Mina was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ray Clemence in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. When Eliseo Mina came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eliseo Mina couldn't finish the play. A throw-in in the 92nd minute of the game was made by Rodrigo Abaurre with Phoenix Kante as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. 93 minutes into the match, Peru's Rafael Gallo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ray Clemence narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After taking down the ball on PHOENIX SC's corner Phoenix Kante fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Rolando Noboa quite easily take care of the ball. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
