In the 39th minute of the match Śląsk Bytom got a corner. Peru's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Carlo Monni ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 41st minute of the match, Julian Murillo tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Antoni Brama saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fevzi Baykara in the 46th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Julian Murillo to make the kick off. If Julian Murillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
