Jairo Castellano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edward Mcdonald in the 20th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Xulian Calvo in the 24th minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Marco Day to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edward Mcdonald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Jairo Castellano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marco Day made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vlad Ţăranu in the 28th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in USA's zone, Vlad Ţăranu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marco Day came out of the goal and Vlad Ţăranu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jairo Castellano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hubert Marais fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marco Day having to interfere. In the 43rd minute Vlad Ţăranu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Day saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hubert Marais in the 48th minute of play. After 50 minutes USA's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Orlo Sarrate who took care of the corner kick. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Curcio Carballeira fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Getafe Deportivo's protests and gave Curcio Carballeira a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, USA's Fabian Brown got a free kick in the 73rd minute. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the USA players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
