The supporters of Venezuela booed when Tamboril was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilian de Senna didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 24 minutes, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Erivaldo Furlan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patricio Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 30th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alex Chicote to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Erivaldo Furlan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Erivaldo Furlan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tomas Illescas's shot from short distance in the 34th minute. With a little luck, Tamboril's Erivaldo Furlan got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Cacá Matorin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Venezuela's Patricio Costa managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Ezequiel Duarte in the 41 minute of the game. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emil Zaremba in the 44th minute of play. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emil Zaremba in the 51st minute of play. Erivaldo Furlan didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Tomas Illescas went, in the 53rd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubens Torres in the 62nd minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cacá Matorin in the 63rd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Patricio Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erivaldo Furlan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 76 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Joshua Secada sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Erivaldo Furlan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 77 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rubens Torres. Cacá Matorin who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 80thth minute tested the skills of Jonathan Ferrant when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Camilo Gaos during the 81st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Camilo Gaos hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. When Camilo Gaos was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 85 minutes had been played. In the 85th minute, Camilo Gaos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
