In the 23rd minute of the match, Cristian Sancho got a very nice opportunity to score, but Harry Higuita was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. A hard shot 27 in the game by Daniel Zorita from a close distance when the talented Harry Higuita managed to make a qualified save. Aro FC's players were relieved. Sune Svartengren fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. When Nate Drakenborg came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Aro FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nate Drakenborg couldn't finish the play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nate Drakenborg was the one to do the kick off. The referee ignored Aro FC's protests and gave Errikos Tsagaris a yellow card for diving instead. But to his dismay, Sune Svartengren quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
