Edmundo Espiga in the 11thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Luca Espinar kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Tobias Zachrisson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Lautaro Navarro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edmundo Espiga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudio-Paul Taffarel having to interfere. Edmundo Espiga took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Claudio-Paul Taffarel. Claudio-Paul Taffarel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. The supporters of Honduras booed when Inter de Melão was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Delfim Paraense didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edmundo Espiga's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 43rdth minute, Claudio-Paul Taffarel skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 46 minutes into the match, Ernesto Farias had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lautaro Navarro. Honduras's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ernesto Farias was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Edmundo Espiga made a kick off. Claudio-Paul Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edmundo Espiga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Honduras's Lautaro Navarro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Delfim Paraense in the 56th minute of play. A collision led to Inter de Melão getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Acácio Pernambucano hit a great ball. After 70 minutes, Emanuel Ocampo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Honduras and the Inter de Melão players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 69th minute of the game. One of Honduras:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Inter de Melão:s goal. A collision led to Inter de Melão getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Delfim Paraense hit a great ball. Honduras were awarded a corner in the 77th minute after Inter de Melão's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Edmundo Espiga took the corner. After 77 played minutes Honduras got a freekick which was hit by Valentín Carvallo. The audience was convinced that Edmundo Espiga's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Claudio-Paul Taffarel was relentless in the 86th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Edmundo Espiga in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Claudio-Paul Taffarel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmundo Espiga in the 91st minute of play forced Inter de Melão's goalkeeper Claudio-Paul Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 92nd minute, Luca Espinar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Honduras's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
