Pankracy Oborski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Börje Fagerberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Thanks to some nice moves Tomas Illescas could shoot a difficult shot in the 12th minute, which Mark Nilsson however easily saved by the left post. Best Man blasted a shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jonathan Ferrant having to make a save. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Herman Litmanen in the 17th minute of the match. Best Man struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Djurgårdens IF. Tomas Illescass short, quick shot in the 27thth minute got Mark Nilsson to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Illescas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mark Nilsson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Best Man, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 41st match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gaos to maneuver through the defense.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Börje Fagerberg to make the kick off. Mark Nilsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 53rd minute of play. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Venegas kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Venezuela from getting a goal against them. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Helge Lindman during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 63 played minutes Djurgårdens IF got a freekick which was hit by Helge Lindman. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 66th minute of play forced Djurgårdens IF's goalkeeper Mark Nilsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Börje Fagerberg received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jonathan Ferrant came out and tried to block the shot, but Börje Fagerberg slotted it home off the left post making it 0-2 in the 71st minute. 79 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Börje Fagerberg. Ingemar Josefsson kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. The Djurgårdens IF supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Djurgårdens IF would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
