After 5 played minutes ΠΑΟΚ FC's Edmondo Del Monte stole the ball from his opponents and shot the ball towards the upper left corner, but Marco Day stretched himself as far as he could, and stopped the ball from passing the line. robbing USA of the goal. The supporters of USA booed when ΠΑΟΚ FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ernesto Tauro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marco Day made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Edmondo Del Monte sent off a good shot on target. USA's Marco Day proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save USA from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Santiago Silva got free with Marco Day in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. USA were awarded a corner in the 26th minute after ΠΑΟΚ FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Cassius Byrne took the corner. The corner ended in Jenson Smith almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but ΠΑΟΚ FC's Ingvar Nykvist did a great save. 29 minutes into the match, USA's goalkeeper Marco Day had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Petros Mirtsos. With a little luck, USA's Marco Day got control of the ball when Santiago Silva tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cassius Byrne in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ingvar Nykvist prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ingvar Nykvist came out of the goal in the 39th minute to try and stop a shot by USA's Monty Rogers. But to his dismay, Monty Rogers quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in USA's zone, Edmondo Del Monte stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marco Day came out of the goal and Edmondo Del Monte tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 45th minute Petros Mirtsos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Day saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Petros Mirtsos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Cassius Byrne to strike the kick off in the second half. Ingvar Nykvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cassius Byrne in the 52nd minute of play. Jacob May could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Ingvar Nykvist made a huge save. In the 55th minute Petros Mirtsos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Day saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marco Day showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Santiago Silva in the 60th minute of the match. After 64 minutes of play, ΠΑΟΚ FC's Santiago Silva made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marco Day was left in no man's land by his defense there! ΠΑΟΚ FC's Thanasis Kanavos was substituted for Gustav Kock. Petros Mirtsos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. USA made a substitution. Khalid Parry replaced Monty Rogers. Marco Day showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sotiris Zacharakis in the 81st minute of the match. After some careless play in the USA defense, Sotiris Zacharakis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marco Day. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marco Day should have stopped the shot. Marco Day made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Baldovino Argos in the 88th minute of play.
