Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Walter Wallander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Illescas, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kjell Åkesson went, in the 22nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. Kjell Åkesson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jonathan Ferrant read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Octavian Basten received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A sloppy throw-in by Roque Lauro in the 34th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Venezuela's Salvador Gisbert. 38 minutes into the match, Kjell Åkesson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kjell Åkesson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. The supporters of JKs Talanger booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alex Chicote didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kjell Åkesson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kjell Åkesson got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kjell Åkesson to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in JKs Talanger's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Walter Wallander came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 55 minutes into the match, Patricio Costa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Walter Wallander. JKs Talanger's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Patricio Costa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-1. JKs Talanger made a substitution. Kent Möller replaced Gunther Zapf. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kjell Åkesson, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Jose Correa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walter Wallander having to interfere. The referee showed Joshua Secada the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Joshua Secada hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kjell Åkesson in the 96th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. For all the effort they put into the match, the Venezuela players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for JKs Talanger.
