In the 14th minute the ball was on its way in behind Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 20 minutes into the match, SCs StarS's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Petr Čech reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, SCs StarS's Florian Hekman got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jordy Dirks, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 31 minutes into the match, SCs StarS's goal looked a bit too open when Lautaro Mancebo came free, but Petr Čech reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Joel Gaona to make the kick off. SCs StarS's Petr Čech proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save SCs StarS from getting a goal against them. Luca Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Petr Čech read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 58 minutes, Petr Čech successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. A hard shot by Joel Gaona from long distance, 61 minutes into the match, got Petr Čech's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jordy Dirks in the 65th minute of play.
