Erol Suer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. If Monty Rogers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute of the match, Jan Persson tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Marco Day saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bishop Fazey got free with Marco Day in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Erol Suer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cassius Byrne, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute.
