FC Steaua Pildesti's Marian Văduvescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 15th minute of play. Marian Văduvescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Juan Sebastián Puig made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that FC Steaua Pildesti's Marian Văduvescu managed to reach the ball for a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Constantin Deșliu in the 46th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

52 minutes into the game, Nicolae Barbu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Steaua Pildesti's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. Nicolae Barbu kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. 54 minutes into the match, FC Steaua Pildesti's goalkeeper Marian Văduvescu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 87th minute, which Marian Văduvescu however easily saved by the left post. After having played for 90 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
