The supporters of FC Fano booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Evren Cambaz came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the FC Fano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Evren Cambaz couldn't finish the play. If Leon Adelstein had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 29th minute, FC Fano's Wally Auffarth ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. In the 35th play minute Evren Cambaz came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Benito Sanz. 2-0. Evren Cambaz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Efrain Moruga hit a great ball.

Leon Adelstein scored 3-0 in the 51st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Evren Cambaz in the 57th minute of play. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Alan Moruga hit a great ball. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wally Auffarth in the 60th minute of the match. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Evren Cambaz, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 69 played minutes FC Fano got a freekick which was hit by Wally Auffarth. In the 69th minute Axel Tasis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dietrich Winkler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leon Adelstein in the 71st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Evren Cambaz in the 74th minute of play. The attack was good, but when Evren Cambaz in the 76th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. FC Fano's Karl Beauchêne quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FC Fano fully deserved thier win.
