If Eliseo Mina had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jaap Stam kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. 31 minutes into the match, Peru's Luz Tejedor sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Per-Oskar Svensson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Eliseo Mina managed to get in a good position for a shot. Peru's supporters rose to their feet, but Eliseo Mina was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Per-Oskar Svensson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Peru's Rolando Noboa got control of the ball when Golaki Kafadar tried to sneak it across the goal line. After the first half Peru were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Golaki Kafadar to make the kick off. Peru's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
