In the 34th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Volkan Ünalmış saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in WKS Śląsk Wrocław's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Volkan Ünalmış came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to WKS Śląsk Wrocław getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Dobromir Porajewski hit a great ball. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. The Venezuela players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
