Anton Ljungberg kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. Göran Vennerdal who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 14thth minute tested the skills of Joaquin Gayoso when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 16 minutes into the match, Grinchez's goal looked a bit too open when Francisco Seco came free, but Gustaf Bodin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Francisco Seco had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gustaf Bodin. Grinchez's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Francisco Seco was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Francisco Seco kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexandros Kotakis in the 38th minute of play. If Francisco Seco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 47 minutes into the game, Arturo Carvallo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Uruguay's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grinchez the free kick. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Arturo Carvallo got a free kick in the 47th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The supporters of Grinchez booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kevin Carballal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fredrik Lidberg in the 65th minute of play. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alexandros Kotakis's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. 69 minutes into the game, Bruno Beldad was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. When Diamantino Reis fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick.
