Aykut Balaman didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Antonio Arias went, in the 21st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Waclaw Lamczyk kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Aykut Balaman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Primitivo Andino during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 78th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aykut Balaman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 80 minutes into the match, Waclaw Lamczyk had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Waclaw Lamczyk was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Active ZDW made a substitution. After recieving a nice pass, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita tried to score from far away in the 94th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 98th minute, Camilo Gisbert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 99 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gisbert. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
