In the 31st minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 33 minutes into the match, Salta Futbol Club's goalkeeper Jimeno Teodor had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomas Illescas. Patricio Costa's late challenge caught a Salta Futbol Club's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Patricio Costa helped the player get up and apologised. After 34 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Patricio Costa. When Salta Futbol Club's Ernesto Odol in the 38th minute got a chance for a shot 38th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Venezuela's goalie prevented a goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ernesto Odol was the one to do the kick off. In the 50th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patricio Costa to maneuver through the defense. 52 minutes into the game, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jimeno Teodor made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. After having played for 54 minutes, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patricio Costa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gavra Parezanović sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 56th minute, Ernesto Odol made a precise shot to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Jose Correa kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. 60 minutes into the match, Salta Futbol Club's Stéphane Le Thiec broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Rigoberto Mina charged in rather forcefully in the 62nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rigoberto Mina the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Rigoberto Mina hit a great ball. 63 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ernesto Odol. Jimeno Teodor made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 69th minute of play. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 83rd minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jimeno Teodor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Venezuela were awarded a corner in the 84th minute after Salta Futbol Club's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Tomas Illescas took the corner. In the 87th minute, Jose Correa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Stéphane Le Thiec might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jonathan Ferrant. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Stéphane Le Thiec ran back to his position shaking his head. 92 minutes had been played when some careless play by Salta Futbol Club's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tomas Illescas was slow to take the kick. During this time Venezuela's players had a chance to rest. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Venezuela succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Salta Futbol Club had controlled the match.
