S E Palmeiras's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Zorita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Astor Aragones made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 8th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 14th minute of play forced S E Palmeiras's goalkeeper Astor Aragones to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 15th minute. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Astor Aragones tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, Cristian Sancho cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Astor Aragones was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Astor Aragones having to interfere. 45 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Astor Aragones narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 52nd match minute, S E Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurício Vianna to maneuver through the defense. In the 53rd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Arias to maneuver through the defense. Astor Aragones made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 56th minute. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 64 minutes into the match, S E Palmeiras's goalkeeper Astor Aragones had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Aldo Casos blasted a shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. 65 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Aldo Casos came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Astor Aragones made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 67th minute of play. After 68 played minutes S E Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Celedonio Froila. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Astor Aragones made a huge save. Ecuador's Felix Montenegro was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Astor Aragones in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 75th match minute when Ecuador's Felix Montenegro looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Astor Aragones in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aldo Casos hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Aldo Casos's shot from short distance in the 95th minute. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
