Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bixente Massardier in the 22nd minute of play. With a little luck, The Alliance's Evert Offendahl got control of the ball when Eliseo Noboa tried to sneak it across the goal line. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kasper Hermansson in the 31st minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sven Söderberg during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when The Alliance was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sven Söderberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Alliance's Georg Frisk was substituted for Sven Söderberg. Sven Söderberg kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. Evert Offendahl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Noboa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 43 minutes of play, The Alliance's Bixente Massardier made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bixente Massardier in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. 55 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kasper Hermansson. With his leg Benito Sanz managed to avoid a goal in the 79thth minute, when The Alliance's Bixente Massardier fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 80th minute Bixente Massardier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 82 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Bixente Massardier came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the final whistle sounded The Alliance left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Costa Rica.
