Felix Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 6th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gerrit Hardering. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. New England Patriots's Gerrit Hardering played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 8th minute of play. In the 14th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerrit Hardering saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 16th minute of play forced New England Patriots's goalkeeper Gerrit Hardering to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 22nd minute, Cristian Sancho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Gustavo Cordeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. The corner ended in Luis Andino almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but New England Patriots's Gerrit Hardering did a great save. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. In the 51st minute of the match, Cristian Sancho got a very nice opportunity to score, but Gerrit Hardering was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. When Cristian Sancho fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Cristian Sancho a yellow card for diving instead. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustavo Cordeiro in the 56th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gerrit Hardering was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Felix Montenegro made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 63rdth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Gerrit Hardering would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. After 64 minutes of play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gerrit Hardering was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gerrit Hardering showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 68th minute of the match. Gerrit Hardering came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. Gerrit Hardering took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a free kick in the 90th minute. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than New England Patriots.
