Eduardo Pereyra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 3rd minute of the match. Felix Montes kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. After 12 played minutes New York Red Bulls got a freekick which was hit by Doru Coman. 15 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Berkan Temel came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 19 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by George Schiau. After a rather tough play, New York Red Bulls's Anton Tăutu got a free kick in the 21st minute. 24 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Eduardo Pereyra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 26 played minutes New York Red Bulls got a freekick which was hit by Piers Amos. A collision led to New York Red Bulls getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Anton Tăutu hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Berkan Temel in the 32nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eduardo Pereyra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Agustín Saelices, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eduardo Pereyra having to interfere. Doru Coman was extremely unlucky when he, in the 42nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisc Ştiubei in the 47th minute of the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell George Schiau to make the kick off. When George Schiau came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the New York Red Bulls fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that George Schiau couldn't finish the play. Salih Şahsuvaroğlu's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Salih Şahsuvaroğlu helped the player get up and apologised. 64 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Berkan Temel came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. New York Red Bulls were awarded a corner in the 65th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Basarab Panduru took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Basarab Panduru got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 66th minute Basarab Panduru shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eduardo Pereyra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers George Schiau in the 72nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling George Schiau in the 72nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 77thth minute of the game Basarab Panduru who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Berkan Temel in the 79th minute of play. After having played for 80 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. In the 93rd minute, George Schiau ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Berkan Temel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The New York Red Bulls players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
