Manos Karagiannopoulos kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Iraklis Vazakos. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 34 minutes in the game Orestis Papadakoglou did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Vassilis Batzis. After having played for 36 minutes, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Iraklis Vazakos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patricio Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Camilo Gaos hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. In the 46thth minute of the game Tomas Illescas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Αστέρας's Iraklis Vazakos was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Patricio Costa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Iraklis Vazakos. Αστέρας's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Patricio Costa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Iraklis Vazakos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Illescas, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vassilis Batzis in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonathan Ferrant prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Dionysis Koukos made in the 62nd minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Vassilis Batzis. Jonathan Ferrant dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. In the 86th minute Eugenios Iordanis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 88 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. After 89 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. In the 91st minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
