Thomas Runeberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joel Gaona in the 14th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Wolverhampton's zone, Lautaro Mancebo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Thomas Runeberg came out of the goal and Lautaro Mancebo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mexico's Dante Lacasa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save Mexico from getting a goal against them. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Luca Rouco hit a great ball. When Librado Pamperin came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Wolverhampton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Librado Pamperin couldn't finish the play. 26 minutes into the match, Wolverhampton's goal looked a bit too open when Luca Zorita came free, but Thomas Runeberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 26th minute, Luca Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Thomas Runeberg was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Thomas Runeberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 32nd minute of the match. 34 minutes into the match, Edmund Almkvist had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dante Lacasa. Mexico's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Edmund Almkvist was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. 45 minutes had been played when some careless play by Mexico's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Librado Pamperin was slow to take the kick. During this time Wolverhampton's players had a chance to rest. Wolverhampton's Librado Pamperin was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Dante Lacasa in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sotiris Koupepes made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Wolverhampton's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Thomas Runeberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 54 minutes into the match, Mexico's Alberto Tafalla sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Thomas Runeberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Thomas Runeberg made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Lautaro Mancebo sent off a good shot on target. Joel Gaona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Thomas Runeberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Joel Gaona got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Thomas Runeberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luca Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Alberto Tafalla kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. In the 71st minute Luca Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thomas Runeberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thomas Runeberg was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Joel Gaona showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-2 in the 75 minute of play. Thomas Runeberg was a little too slow when Lautaro Mancebo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 81st minute. The score was now 1-3. Thomas Runeberg made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 83rd minute. Thomas Runeberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 89th minute of play. Mexico's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
