In the 37th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Arias to maneuver through the defense. Rafa Coutinho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. In the 43rd minute, Róbson Sergipano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 45th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Walmir Dias tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 92nd minute of the match, but Walmir Dias made a huge save. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ® was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Róbson Sergipano didn't get a good kick on the ball.
