But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maximiliano Escribano couldn't finish the play. The crowd rose to their feet as PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Golo Phoenix slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Joaquin Gayoso. That made the score 1-0 after 10 minutes of play. After a defensive mix-up in Uruguay's zone, Aristide Fetea stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquin Gayoso came out of the goal and Aristide Fetea tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dacian Ghițescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Francisco Seco, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Arturo Carvallo lost his temper 44 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 44th minute, one of Uruguay:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Uruguay. Lucian Şimonca shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francisco Seco stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Joaquin Gayoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Golo Phoenix, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Golo Phoenix's shot from short distance in the 96th minute.
