The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Loukas Papagiannopoulos, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sven-Ove Frykberg having to make a save. Tomas Illescas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sven-Ove Frykberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. After 40 played minutes Новгород TS got a freekick which was hit by Igor Braginskiy. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Yakov Blokhin to make the kick off. Viviano Baños struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Новгород TS. When Guillermo Mariano fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Guillermo Mariano a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Новгород TS booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guillermo Mariano didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpected shot in the 58th minute by Yakov Blokhin got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Sven-Ove Frykberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Venezuela's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tomas Illescas in the 66th minute. The corner led Venezuela's Tomas Illescas to fire away a dangerous shot which Sven-Ove Frykberg despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Jonathan Venegas kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. 77 minutes had been played when some careless play by Venezuela's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Igor Braginskiy was slow to take the kick. During this time Новгород TS's players had a chance to rest. After having played for 84 minutes, Affan Saye managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Новгород TS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Affan Saye was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Igor Braginskiy hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. In the 93rd minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sven-Ove Frykberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
