The audience thought a goal was coming when Stanislaw Siembab got free with Julio Vera in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Miroslaw Basaik stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristian Sancho's shot from short distance in the 97th minute. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Ecuador had played much better football throughout.
