Martin Cordeal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. In the 28th minute, Felix Montenegro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Martin Cordeal having to make a save. 47 minutes had been played when some careless play by C. S. D. Pueyrredón's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Teobaldo Rosario stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 52 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. Luis Andino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Martin Cordeal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. Romulo Matia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Martin Cordeal made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 62nd minute. Luis Andino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Martin Cordeal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martin Cordeal having to interfere. C. S. D. Martin Cordeal dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. Halil İbrahim Yeltekin might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Halil İbrahim Yeltekin ran back to his position shaking his head. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Halil İbrahim Yeltekin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Halil İbrahim Yeltekin in the 79th minute of the match. Halil İbrahim Yeltekin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute.
