Mitchel Dijkstra was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience was convinced that Leandro Soares's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pedro Manzanares was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. 23 minutes into the match, Colombia's goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Leandro Soares. The shot was stopped by Pedro Manzanares but with some difficulty. Luis Cazalla kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. After the first half Colombia were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Abram Sarmiento was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Abram Sarmiento reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mitchel Dijkstra. The goal made the score 1-3. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leandro Soares couldn't finish the play. Fc Benefica made a substitution. Denis Beremundo replaced Humberto Jonge. Mitchel Dijkstra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abram Sarmiento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 68 minutes into the match, Leandro Soares had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pedro Manzanares. Leandro Soares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 89th minute Leandro Soares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Manzanares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
