Spectators: 41 (Terracing: 32, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Cristobal Eneto started the match with the kick off. 10 minutes into the match, Deportivo Marplatense's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Mikael Sjögren reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Deportivo Marplatense were awarded a corner in the 14th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Sven-Ove Olsson took the corner. After taking down the ball on Deportivo Marplatense's corner Sven-Ove Olsson fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Cristobal Eneto blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. 17 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristobal Eneto. Deportivo Marplatense's Mikael Sjögren played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute of play. Andrew Robertson kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. 22 minutes into the match, Deportivo Marplatense's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Mikael Sjögren reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 28th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mikael Sjögren saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 30th minute of play forced Deportivo Marplatense's goalkeeper Mikael Sjögren to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mikael Sjögren made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 32nd minute of play. In the 33rd minute, Felix Montenegro ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mikael Sjögren was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 40th minute, Tadeo Cesario hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mikael Sjögren made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 43rd minute of play. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Primitivo Andino hit a great ball. The Deportivo Marplatense players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. 56 minutes into the match, Cristobal Eneto had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cristobal Eneto was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Mikael Sjögren made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 59th minute. In the 60th minute of the game Primitivo Andino made a throw-in which Felix Montenegro played forward. In the 63rd minute of the match Deportivo Marplatense got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sven-Ove Olsson ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Sven-Ove Olsson almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Mikael Sjögren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristobal Eneto in the 71st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. After 72 minutes of play, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mikael Sjögren was left in no man's land by his defense there! Mikael Sjögren made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 77th minute. 78 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mikael Sjögren made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. After a rather tough play, Deportivo Marplatense's Albano Peter got a free kick in the 95th minute.
