Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jaime Pardo to make the kick off. Cipriano Cordeiro's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cipriano Cordeiro helped the player get up and apologised. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Benedito Alves during the 93rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Benedito Alves hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. 94 minutes into the match, Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Hílton do Valle narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Esporte Clube Italva were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Paraguay's much stronger midfield.
