The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 12th match minute when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Fausto Sotres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 17th minute of play. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Urrutia Chavarria went, in the 18th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. 24 minutes into the match, Siete de Octubre's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Fausto Sotres reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fausto Sotres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 28th minute of play. If Urrutia Chavarria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. Siete de Octubre's Fausto Sotres proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save Siete de Octubre from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Urrutia Chavarria in the 61st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 66 minutes, Aguirre Vialpando managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Siete de Octubre's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aguirre Vialpando was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
