The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by 周岚风 during the 4th minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when GRÊMIO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. 周岚风 didn't get a good kick on the ball. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 13 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Frank Tepedino narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 24 played minutes GRÊMIO got a freekick which was hit by 魏宽银. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dimitris Saravakos in the 26th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Frank Tepedino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When GRÊMIO's 魏宽银 in the 32nd minute got a chance for a shot 32nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. Dimitris Saravakos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dimitris Saravakos was the one to do the kick off. Bryant Tout hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Frank Tepedino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 54 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Frank Tepedino made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. In the 59th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Tepedino saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If 魏宽银 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 73 minutes into the match, GRÊMIO's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Frank Tepedino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 魏宽银 could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. In the 76th minute, Felix Montenegro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Dimitris Saravakos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game. 83 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by 魏宽银. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Dimitris Saravakos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Ecuador's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
