A collision led to United States getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Asher Springer hit a great ball. Karl Fleming took the corner. 13 minutes into the game, Sherman Sosa cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Jacobo Nores was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Jaime Pardo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paraguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Jaime Pardo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Renaldo David breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 20 minutes into the game, Brett Arden threw the ball into play from the sideline. Paraguay's Xavier Zoido quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Primitivo Escribano kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Jaime Pardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Renaldo David tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After recieving a nice pass, Paraguay's Jaime Pardo tried to score from far away in the 28th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dexter Snell in the 31st minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dexter Snell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacobo Nores having to interfere. 35 minutes into the game, Dexter Snell threw the ball into play from the sideline. Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Dexter Snell made in the 46th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jaime Pardo to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Jaime Pardo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paraguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Jaime Pardo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Renaldo David breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Asher Springer during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jaime Pardo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 66 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Primitivo Escribano. After 69 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Hector Covarrubias. In the 72nd match minute, United States was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Asher Springer to maneuver through the defense. In the 73rd minute of the match Primitivo Escribano shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Renaldo David showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Renaldo David took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Pardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 76 played minutes United States got a freekick which was hit by Darron Healy. Jaime Pardo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Renaldo David having to make a save. After having played for 83 minutes, Jaime Pardo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jaime Pardo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Alan Campos got a free kick in the 86th minute. Jacobo Nores took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dexter Snell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Despite being the better team, Paraguay failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
