The supporters of Ecuador booed when Club Puerto Quito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Armando Larrieta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 24th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Club Puerto Quito's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Club Puerto Quito's Mauricio Precioso managed to reach the ball for a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristian Sancho in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mauricio Precioso saved Club Puerto Quito from getting behind. The attack was good, but when Cristian Sancho in the 24th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. After a defensive mix-up in Club Puerto Quito's zone, Felix Montenegro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mauricio Precioso came out of the goal and Felix Montenegro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mauricio Precioso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 29th minute of the match. In the 31st match minute, Club Puerto Quito was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ayoví Costoya to maneuver through the defense. In the 32ndth minute of the game Daniel Zorita who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Club Puerto Quito's Mauricio Precioso was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 33rd minute, Luis Andino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Mauricio Precioso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Ayoví Costoya tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 43rd minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Club Puerto Quito's Mauricio Precioso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 67th minute of play. Cristian Sanchos short, quick shot in the 87thth minute got Mauricio Precioso to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Agustín Saelices blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mauricio Precioso having to make a save. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
