Felix Montenegro kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Fernando Ruisko made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 14th minute of play. 15 minutes into the match, El Millo de Haedo's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Fernando Ruisko reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th minute, Camilo Gisbert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 22nd minute of play forced El Millo de Haedo's goalkeeper Fernando Ruisko to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fernando Ruisko took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. El Millo de Haedo's Fernando Ruisko played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 29th minute of play. In the 35th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fernando Ruisko saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fernando Ruisko made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 37th minute of play. Fernando Ruisko took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luis Andino during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 44 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Luis Andino. After 47 minutes, Maximino Rosio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Millo de Haedo and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 47th minute, Maximino Rosio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fernando Ruisko made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in El Millo de Haedo's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fernando Ruisko came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. El Millo de Haedo's Hernán Crespo got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hernán Crespo's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hernán Crespo helped the player get up and apologised. El Millo de Haedo's Fernando Ruisko played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 79th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aurelio Aureo in the 80th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 83rd minute, Cristian Sancho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 85 minutes into the match, El Millo de Haedo's goalkeeper Fernando Ruisko had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. 87 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fernando Ruisko made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alejo Urtun, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 94th minute, Luis Andino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The El Millo de Haedo supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Ecuador's performance. The match ended with a win for Ecuador.
