With a couple of smart ball manuevers Serginho Silva in the 9th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Serginho Silva, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Serginho Silva in the 15th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bonifacio Naldo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 30th minute of play. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ruperto Txomin got free with Julio Vera in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Serginho Silva who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 44thth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Segundo Oton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Epifanio Koldobika hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. In the 55th minute of the match Daniel Zorita sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bonifacio Naldo skillfully saved the ball. 61 minutes into the match, Atletico Calamar Saavedra's goalkeeper Bonifacio Naldo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Serginho Silva in the 62nd minute of play. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bonifacio Naldo having to interfere. Abel Galo charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Abel Galo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 96th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Serginho Silva in the 97th minute of the match. Ecuador were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Atletico Calamar Saavedra to leave the ground with a draw.
