Fabian Arenaza was slow to take the kick. During this time Club Atletico Fenix's players had a chance to rest. The supporters of Club Atletico Fenix booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Illescas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Anders Larsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 12th minute of play. Cecilio Seber could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. 19 minutes into the game, Tomas Illescas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Anders Larsson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Illescas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Anders Larsson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cecilio Seber sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. When Jonathan Venegas fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Jonathan Venegas a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Jonathan Venegas hit a great ball. After the first half Venezuela were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Anders Larsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 52nd minute of the match. After 53 minutes Club Atletico Fenix's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tomas Illescas who took care of the corner kick. In the 55th minute Jacinto Olentzaro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal in the 56th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atletico Fenix's Jacinto Olentzaro. But to his dismay, Jacinto Olentzaro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. Club Atletico Fenix made a substitution. Eskil Åkesson replaced Cecilio Seber. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eskil Åkesson, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. The supporters of Club Atletico Fenix booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacinto Olentzaro in the 67th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jose Correa got a free kick in the 70th minute. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jacinto Olentzaro in the 75th minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eskil Åkesson in the 77th minute of play. In the 82nd minute, Lukasz Fafinski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eskil Åkesson in the 89th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the Venezuela players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Club Atletico Fenix.
