Palmares Futebol Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. In the 40th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Palmares Futebol Clube's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Leonardo Paz in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 41st match minute, Palmares Futebol Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ismael Secco to maneuver through the defense. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 51st minute, which Leonardo Paz however easily saved by the left post. 54 minutes into the match, Palmares Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Leonardo Paz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. In the 57th minute Palmares Futebol Clube were awarded a corner. Luisinho Nogueira went to the cornerflag to take it. Gláuber da Costa's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Leonardo Paz in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Leonardo Paz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 64th minute. Palmares Futebol Clube made a substitution. Thomás Maia replaced Luisinho Nogueira.
