Leonardo Paz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. 16 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Palmares Futebol Clube's Leonardo Paz. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Cristian Sancho sped through Palmares Futebol Clube's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Leonardo Paz. Ismael Secco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Palmares Futebol Clube's Thomás Maia was substituted for Luisinho Nogueira. Palmares Futebol Clube made a substitution. João Carlos Antunes replaced Jarbas Porto. Leonardo Paz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Agustín Saelices in the 78th minute. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind Palmares Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Leonardo Paz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
