Mikk Nurk's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. Mikk Nurk could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristian Sancho in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benigno Jerold saved Galway Cowboys from getting behind. In the 44th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benigno Jerold saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Benigno Jerold didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador.

With a little luck, Galway Cowboys's Benigno Jerold got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Luis Andino a yellow card for diving instead. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Moisés Antas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ruben Estebe's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
